Once he associated with Semantic, he went downhill fast. Today, hi anti-virus program IS a virus. Anyone that says otherwise is a liar. It is far worse than Windows ME for running apps without telling you. If you want a real anti-virus or anti-malware program, try AVG. They have a free version and AVG has won several awards for finding new undocumented virus 100% of the time with zero false positives. Floyd |

| | Re: Norton on Vista Floyd, You might want to update your history. Peter Norton sold the company to **Symantec** 17 years ago and significantly well in advance of Windows 95. You might also wish to check your stats on AVG, the free version routinely finds(similar to other free programs)65-90% of the potential virus threats. Not a single AV program can detect 100% of undocumented virii including the fee based versions which operate in the 90%+ range. Even the pro version of AVG (fee based) is further down the list compared to other reputable fee based versions. Here's a cross section of sites that perform ratings using a variety of different methods. | | RE: Norton on Vista Hello all, I read all your tips and views and finally plumped for Mick Murphy's link to the Norton Removal Too. Very straight forward and it worked. Thanks, Mick. My thanks to all who chipped in with views and tips. People like myself with limited knowledge find these pages very useful. Thanks again, M "Mick M" wrote: > d have just started to use Vista and each time I switch on a box comes up > telling I should use Norton. ANG is low on the list Mod 32 comes out top with Kaspersky at about 78% I prefer Panda but its three down on that list. -- Ian "...winston" <merlin@druid9#.com> wrote in message news:urANw#RxHHA.4668@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... | | Re: Norton on Vista He didn't say AOL, he said Active Virus Shield (by Kaspersky) but offered free by AOL. Two different things. I use Active Virus Shield and it's very good. Doesn't hog resources at all. I was skeptical at first but after investigation, I found that AOL didn't screw it up. (for once!)
