Poor performance with IE on Vista

Why is IE so darn slow when it comes to connecting to web sites, and
downloading. Currently we have a AMD 64-bit processor running at about 2
gig, and 1 gig of memory so that shouldn't be the problem.

What can I do to improve the IE performance? And switching to Mozilla isn't
the best way to go right now.... in case anyone is going to suggest
that.....

Thanks!

What speed connection do you have. At 2g my IE loads real fast.

The Windows Beta renders pages real quick, bit it's beta so it crashes
sometimes (not that IE/FF don't crash either). A 2Ghz AMD64 chip is what a
2800+? What's your experience rating? Right click on Computer and select
Properties. Did you upgrade or install from scratch?

I haven't bothered to install any other browser so can't say others
are faster but I don't see IE7 as being slow. Could be your settings
or your ISP.

I have broadband from WOW and Internet access is brisk. Just for an
example from clicking on the IE shortcut to go to Google (which I have
as my home page) takes by actual stopwatch testing 1.2 seconds. Going
to a site like Microsoft's home page took 1.8 seconds to load. Going
to a more distant site, thousands of miles away and passing through
multiple routers, I just visited the Vatican home page in Rome and
that took 2.2 seconds. Trying a more complex site like Disney's which
is loaded with graphical content and loads a streaming video besides
on their home page took 6.3 seconds, still very respectable times.

I'm not trying to rub salt into your wounds but downloads average over
50 MB a minute depending on site of course. That's FAST!

This is a connection issue and there are a lot of factors on both sides.
One factor can simply be a lot of traffic, another, if you are a cable
subscriber might be too many connections in your area at one time and still
another might be the overall popularity of the sites. There are also
various security and content options that MIGHT be a factor as the delay may
have something to do with the browser checking for authentication of options
for which such authentication is required. You can find those options under
Internet Options in Control panel.

Other things that can impact browsing are various applications. Depending
upon settings, your antivirus might be an issue as it may be set to check
something that is causing a delay. Your firewall can be an issue,
especially if it has its own firewall as some setting there may be the
issue.

In terms of overall traffic, you can try pinging various websites to see if
there are delays and/or how many hops are necessary just to get to a site
and check response times. This can be done from the command prompt which
you can reach by typing cmd and pressing enter in the search or run box on
the Start Menu. If you are uncertain how, do a Google search on how to
ping. The steps described to open the command prompt will differ based on
OS but what you do at the prompt will be the same regardless.

Re: Poor performance with IE on Vista

i am on 8 mb ..i get nearly 7 mb d/l and upload is fixed to 448 kbs, i am on 20:1 ratio which is better than 50:1 and its a static ip address . i am only 1.2 km from server exchange..hopefully in a couple of months time i will go on the 24 mb connection i will get 20 mb d/l and 1.3 up/load..for the change,, i will pay a couple of quid a month extra,,i guess you get use to the speeds and want more,,i am not really a heavy user as well,, i dont d/l masses of apps and videos..i just like to click on a website and have it up quick and surf fast i guess. but its handy if i need something quick,,would hate to wait hours just to d/l a 700 mb avi.
