Laptop vista change

I would like to buy a new laptop computer, but I don't like to work with
Vista for the time being

All new laptops come now with pre-installed Vista.

My question is: can I remove Vista and install XP ?

When I like to "put" Vista back, how can I do that without paying for an
other Vista?/

Re: Laptop vista change

Dell currently has at least two laptops with Windows XP:

You can install any operating system you want including Windows XP.
However you should verify you have all the Windows XP Drivers before
switching.
Some newer computers may have hardware not supported with Windows XP.

Also make sure you have some way of installing Windows Vista such as a
recovery DVD or better yet a Windows Vista DVD.

Re: Laptop vista change

Some suppliers are selling with XP installed. Do a google search for your
country.

Re: Laptop vista change

Carl;
Probably not.
However if you change the operating system and you need warranty work.
You may need to reinstall the original operating system at your time
and expense before warranty work can proceed.

Not so -- Dell, Gateway and LeNovo are all supplying XP on laptops still.
Check all makes and particularly look on the Business models.

Yes but you have to have a copy of XP licensed to you in order to do this
and even more important with a laptop you need to know that the maker will
supply the specialized files a laptop uses such as for power management,
graphics and many other functions -- they may carry names common to desktops
too but they are often customized for laptops.

My advice would be to either stick with VISTA and set it up to Classic View
without the fancy stuff, or buy a laptop with XP installed already.

If you buy a laptop with VISTA on it you can restore it later by using the
recovery disks they supply (which you may have to make from the hard drive
before you reformat it). If you buy a laptop with XP on it then you have to
buy a copy of VISTA.
