Additonal spyware needed in Vista?

Is it necessary to have a spyware program running in addition to the MS
Defender and other built ins with Vista Business? I have an antivirus
program which I know is needed. But wondered if a second AntiSpyware/popup
program was overkill.

I would not bother running another Resident Program however I would
download SpyBot and Adaware and scan on a regular basis. Adaware
2007 is not Vista Compatible (at least it wasn't) and you might need
to get Adaware SE.

Re: Additonal spyware needed in Vista?

Defender is not a virus protector. Yes you need a very good virus protector
and firewall.

No but you may find clashes and if you do simply delete the program.

No you don't want any additional spyware running ( sorry couldn't resist
;-) )

There are no other built-ins. Unless you've installed other anti-spyware
programs, Defender is all you have.

Yes, it's necessary to have other anti-spyware (not spyware) programs
besides Defender. Neither Defender, not any other single program is good
enough. It's important to note what Eric Howes, who has done extensive
testing on Anti-Spyware products, states:

"No single anti-spyware scanner removes everything. Even the best-performing
anti-spyware scanner in these tests missed fully one quarter of the
"critical" files and Registry entries" See

Re: Additonal spyware needed in Vista?

Just FYI... dont't install "Trend Micro AntiSpyware"
it's not ready to run on Vista yet. Apparently you can run "Trend Micro AntiViral and AntiSpyware" but NOT the Spyware as a stand alone program - it crahsed my Vista.
