I checked the Event Viewer now after a long series of crashes and found 5
identical error instances, specifying the errors as follows:

The program iexplore.exe version 7.0.6000.16473 stopped interacting with
Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is
available, check the problem history in the Problem Reports and Solutions
control panel. Process ID: 10fc Start Time: 01c7cfb92b24a324 Termination
Time: 16

IE7 (64) works fine, but I have the same Macromedia Flash Player problems
with it as Pere Casanellas. Firefox works without a hitch however, and I
haven't had any problems with Windows Mail. Outlook 2003 can't import the 3
email accounts I have in Windows Mail. "No accounts found", it claims

Trond,

Since you already tried everything else. Try disabling "DEP". Try disabling it for IE7 (32-bit) first, then if that doesn't do it, disable the whole thing. Here is a link for how to do it.

or send e-mail (I use Thunderbird; and it seems that Outlook 2007 is also a
32-bit appl.); I cannot use Internet Explorer with Macromedia Flash Player
(since it does not exist for IE 64-bit version, the only one with which I can
now work).

I solved the first time this problem restoring my system to a previous
configuration, but it has happened now again. I am in dispair. Probably I
will have to change to Win Vista 32-bits.
Hi Pere,

If you already tried all of the above to, then try disabling the "DEP" as well.

EUREKA!
Shawn you're an angel! The "Reset" button option in Internet Options >
Advanced tab for the x32 IE7 did the trick, it seems.
Thanks a lot! The start/crash/restart/crash every time I clicked a link, was
driving me crazy.
Wonder what caused it though. I checked the add-ons, and now there were
quite a lot more of them. Seems like the reset process disabled most of
them, though, and I'll just leave that, as it is.
Thanks again
Trond

Trond,

Glad to hear it. If you want to find out which add-on was the problem, then enable them one by one and test IE7. When it crashes, you know you found it. Just disable it again and uninstall it.

Thanks, Brink. Yet disabling DEP was not useful to solve the problem in my
computer.

Ok Pere,

Give these a try.

First:
Make sure your antivirus program has all of it's email scanning options turned off. This is a redundant feature that can corrupt Windows Mail. Plus, you will still be protected by your antivirus's real-time resident monitoring protection. Norton and McAfee seem to be the worst offenders, while Avast or AVG has not had any problems reported so far.

Avast - http://avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff

Second:
Have you tried to do the "Reset" button option in Internet Options > Advanced tab for the x32 IE7 yet?

Vista IE 32 freezes and 64 bit doesn't

My issue is that any link that activates IE tries to bring up the 32 bit version (which freezes)instead of the 64 bit version which does not freeze. I set the 64 bit Vista IE as the default but links still try to activate the 32 bit version.

What is the problem?

Hi Henri,

The problem is that Vista makes the x32 IE7 the default instead of the x64 IE7 because there is very little if any support for add ons (EX: Flash player) for the x64 version. I do not know how to change the x64 to the default yet. It involves the registry and not just Program Defaults in the Control Panel though. That is probably why the links still open the x32 version. What method did you try?

For the x32 IE7 freezing, have you tried to do the Reset? You may have a add on that is causing this problem. The reset will disable all of them and you can enable them one by one to see which one it may be.

1. Open Control Panel. (Classic View)
2. Click Internet Options.
3. Click Advanced tab.
4. Click Reset.
5. Click Ok or Yes for the confirmation prompt.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Vista IE 32 freezes and 64 bit doesn't *****FIXED*****

I downloaded a registry cleaner and used it. It seems to have done the trick.

Now the links I activate pull up my Vista IE 64.
