spyware

I know this has probably been asked before but I can't read 4000 posts, so I
am hoping someone has an answer for me. What is a good anti spyware program
for Vista? I have tried to download Ad-aware but I get am error. I see
that Vista OS is not listed so I am assuming thats why I keep getting an
error.

Thank you in advance

Re: spyware

I use Spybuster and I am very happy with it. Also Spybot is a good tool to use as security.

Re: spyware

Spybot Search & Destroy is very good anti-spyware.
So is Spyware Blaster. I use both.
Both are free and Vista compatible.

Re: spyware

Hello Mick - Just downloaded "free" Spybot from their own site. These were the
results -
First - My computer started making a crackling sound that didn't sound
healthy.
Then when it was installed I started scan which turned up 85 something or
others that it recommended removing.
I had to use ALT/F4 to stop their popups which wouldn't go away by any other
means.
Then I was directed to a registration form which charges a one time fee of
$19.95.
So I have to pay $19.95 for "free" anti-spyware. What gives? Wayne

Re: spyware

You did not install Spybot Search & Destroy. You may have downloaded
something with a similar sounding name that may have INSTALLED more spyware
than it will ever remove. A common scam.
Get the *real* utility here (is and always has been free with no forced
registration):

Re: spyware

Max and Jane - Downloaded your link with no problems. No crackling sound, no
popups, no asking for credit card. And it found 10 problems on scanning as
opposed to 85. And I removed them in 10 seconds.
The only hitch - the donation requests that made me feel bad. Thanks, Wayne

Re: spyware

Glad you got the right one this time

Some of the links found via a Google search are extremely misleading, so it
does pay to scrutinise them very carefully indeed.
