| | Aero desktop transparency does not work. running the nvidia gforce chipset, fx5200 and a couple of driver issues i think. there are artifacts on boot and login, the desktop *looks* fine, but windows has decided that i dont need the transparencies. they worked on install, but i have tried (as suggested by nvidia) to use their vista driver, but that and the beta xp/2000, AND the stock xp/2000 driver all have the same artifacting, except the nvidia drivers are actually slower, and there are several issues now surrounding the nvidia control panels. short of a reinstall i have been unsucessful in bringing the effects back online, even though i have reverted back to the bundled nvidia driver. is there a controll panel available that will let me over ride what windows thinks is best? saw this in a simlar thread but i get a not found error (just cut'n'paste i have done no research yet.. 'Fixed by running "winstat aurora" from the Run box' sry for length of post.. we are a bit more long winded in the Linux community (my 3d accelerated desktop runs very nicely there ;P ) ~Mordjah¿ |

| | Re: Aero desktop transparency does not work. Dear I am aslo using Geforce FX5200 but all the aero features are enabled. Make sure that you have big RAM. Currently i am using 1 Gb of RAM. My VGA card memory is 128 MB. I have seen that when the ram is filled up by the programs then the transperancy effect also disappears so this means that visual effects also depends upon PC RAM..nothing to do with drivers..these are plug and play.. | | Re: Aero desktop transparency does not work. Hmmm, that is an interesting tidbit, why on earth would a 3d accelerated effect like that depend on system ram..? that is the point of the 128M on the card one would thinks (as it is "texture space") but i have 3/4 gb of ram, and memory hog vista (and all recent ms products) may be, that should be plenty, since my linux 3d accelerated desktop environment (with a bunch of other services...) uses a grand total of about 100 mb ram.. i never max out unless i am running windows, then i dont have to run any actual programs to use up my system mem. vista does it all by itself but seriously, are youjust running the bundled vista driver? i didnt lose the effects till i did what nvidia said and "updated" my driver. as windows wont show you anything like _all_ the changes that are made when you update a driver, i have no way to know which files are left from the other version (or reg keys or whatever) apparently there is no "clean" way to change a video driver and it seems now that i am stuck with a hodgepodge of oem and ms drivers. (not that the vid driver worked right in the first place) "Usama Zulfiqar" wrote: > Dear > > I am aslo using Geforce FX5200 but all the aero features are enabled. Make > sure that you have big RAM. | | Re: Aero desktop transparency does not work. I suppose for the same reason that some BIOS's have settings for reserving ram for the PCI Express slots.
