software running in the backround

Hi all:

From time to time my system is obviously slower than normal to respond. I
suspect that software running in the backround is the problem. Most likely
the software running is a scheduled task.

Can a scheduled task be made to put an icon in the status bar when it is
running or show that it is running in some other obvious way on the screen
without going to the task manager?

Thanks

George

Re: software running in the backround

Hi,

First, no. Programs have to be coded to run in the taskbar, there's no
setting to make it happen otherwise.

Programs that run in the background are supposed to be set for low priority
so as not to create a performance hit. The number one violator of this are
automatic scans by antivirus software. I would check the settings in your
program and make sure it is set to run when the system is not normally in
use.
