| | Numerous pages open at startup I upgraded to Vista Ultimate because my computer xpsp2 had starting stuttering and opening numerous pages (for example I click explorer and 50 or more explorer pages would open up) opened. I thought upgrading to Vista would cure this, but it did not. Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know how to cure this? Thanks -- Al |

I would try making a fresh installation of Vista, by reformatting and installing Vista without first installing XP and upgrading. You can do this with a Vista upgrade CD - just Google for the instructions. If you do not want to do this, at least try running some anti-malware software, like Spybot or Ad-Aware. I have not actually used either of those programs for a few years now, as I never get any malware. I just use AV software and use an up-to-date HOSTS file. I make the occasional Ewido online scan, but it never finds anything other than tracker cookies. Ewido Online Scan - recommended - http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/ Remember to run this with IE7 running as Administrator (right click the IE icon). ss. |

Thanks For modern operating systems, I normally recommend doing an upgrade, rather than a clean installation. It usually works very well. The one time I do *not* recommend doing an upgrade is when you are currently experiencing problems. Upgrading is far more likely to exacerbate problems than to solve them. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
