| | Desktop Shortcut Icons Change When I add shortcuts to my desktop I like to use Icons or BMPs for their icons. For example I have a shortcut to my phone list on the desktop so I do "Change Icons" and assign a bmp picture of a telephone to it. And these work for a while. But they seem to disappear at random. Instead I'll just have windows or IE default icon and no picture. yet if I do "Change Icon" it shows the correct picture at the top of the box, even though it isn't showing on the desktop. I used to have this problem occassionally in Windows 2000, but not nearly this often. In 2000 I could at least do Change Icon then click the picture, hit APPLY and it would come back. But in Vista I can't get it back unless I move it to another folder. Even if I assign another picture then try to assign back to the original one I can't, and never get the APPLY option. Even if I Move the picture to another folder then move it back again, I still can't egt the icon to appear on the desktop again. These are mostly website links and Word or Excel files. Can anyone help? -- Dan R |

| | Re: Desktop Shortcut Icons Change If your desktop icons are set too large the shortcut icons will revert to the windows default. In Vista, click on any open area of the desktop then hold the Control key and using the mouse scroll button (hope you have one), scroll down and the icons all should get smaller. You will find a certain point where all the shortcut icons revert to windows default as they get larger and return to their designated icon as they get smaller. This solved my icon prob. Hope it helps.
