That said, a lot of people have found that this issue is caused by video drivers. I would start by updating those - if any are available - as well as any other driver updates. One thing to ask yourself is The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't? IOW, if things were fine before - what is different now? If you updated drivers and now get the issue, try rolling them back. Here is general information about drivers: Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from: 1. The device mftr.'s website; OR 2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR 3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.). Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers. To find out what hardware is in your computer: 1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer. 2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway) 3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too although it might not work on Vista. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html - Belarc Advisor http://www.aumha.org/free.htm - Aida32 (hosted on Jim Eshelman's site) If you have installed drivers from Windows Update, you can roll them back: Roll Back Troublesome Device Drivers in Windows Vista from the How-To Geek - http://tinyurl.com/346lox Another thing to check is whether your OEM/motherboard mftr. has any BIOS updates. There were quite a few posts last week about problems with Asus laptops being solved by a BIOS update. Hope this helps to at least get you started with your troubleshooting. You haven't told us anything about your machine, but if the processor isn't being correctly identified you know something you installed is wrong. Rollback or uninstall all the driver updates you did. If you have an OEM machine (Dell, HP, Sony, etc.) you should only be getting drivers from them. If you can't figure out what drivers you installed, then uninstall them all and start over, one driver at a time. You might try a System Restore to before you went on this driver installing spree but I'm not hopeful that will solve the issue. However, it couldn't hurt and will be less trouble than doing a clean install. Back up your data first in any case. In the future, when you have a working system it's best practice to install one thing at a time and test after each change. That way you don't wind up with a mess and not knowing which action you did is the culprit. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" MS-MVP Windows - Shell/User |

| | Re: Blue screen of death during shut down sorry gor the delay i been away for a bit, all of the upgrads where done one at time, but i only noticed this poblem after the cpu upgrade, i have searched high and low for amd athlon x2 6000+ drivers but found nothing, it was only upgraded form an amd athlon x2 3800+ to gain 1ghz cpu speed. could this also be the reason why the side bar smethime takes 50 cpu and of 231000k of memory or is this another problem -- grapes "Malke" wrote: > Craig008 wrote: > > i have done a hole bunch of updates incliding sound graphics and CPU. the > > proccesspr does not show like the old one, it says AMD unknown model and i > > can not find a way of installing it any other way > > Well, there's your problem right there.
