You want to know how I define stupid? Some blockhead that refuses to learn and worships Microsoft blindly. Exhibit A. Frank. Somebody that screams don't do that and his only reason why not is because he says so. Exhibit B. That would be you or just about any fanboy here. |

I didn't do either did I Bozo. I have however used Registry Cleaners over the years and also know many people who have and KNOW they work based on personal experience and on the experience of others that have and continue to use such applications. What does the fanboy crowd have to prove they don't work expect for the usual hot air and stamping of your feet? |

| | RE: Register Cleaner. Last night I idly used a free scan to examine the mechanics of my registry. There were a large number of curable errors in my registry, it said, but I did not buy it. It happens that I use the same company for routine spyware scans. To day on trying to get into my user account the message came up "The user account Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded" I used system restore and received the message "System restore did not complete successfully..." All was lost. I restarted and thankfully got in but I remain very apprehensive. I shall avoid the registey clean up - I can think of nothing else that might have affected the registry. db "Huib" wrote: > Hi, > > I am looking for a Register Cleaner which will clean-up remaining parts of > installed / removed SW. > > Which one is causing no problems within Vista? > > Regards > Huib > > |

| | Re: Register Cleaner. Hi db, As you have found out, registry cleaners can produce unexpected results. If there are any Norton applications installed, take a look at this page. http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html If Vista will not boot after messing with the registry, System Restore can be run from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) http://bertk.mvps.org/html/recovery.html And last but no means least, I would suggest using the following utility to back up the registry before messing with the registry. ERUNT: The Emergency Recovery Utility NT http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://bertk.mvps.org Member: http://dts-l.org db wrote: > Last night I idly used a free scan to examine the mechanics of my registry. > There were a large number of curable errors in my registry, it said, but I > did not buy it.
