| | Vista Ultimate Complete Backup & Restore: Need Help!!! Performed complete backup of C:/ drive to external HD. Vista message, "Backup successful." Shut down computer. Restarted, booting from installation DVD. Computer boots up. I select repair computer, then complete PC backup. I expected Vista to recognize and find the external HD which contains backup file. I get message Vista can not find any backup files. I have tried reformatting the drive and backup again. Each time Vista says backup successful. However same message. Does anyone know how to work around this? It should be noted that I have successfully done this before, using the same drive and procedures. Now for some reason Vista does not see external HD. BIOS sees the drive when booting. I'm using eSATA connection. |

| Vista Business 32bit | Re: Vista Ultimate Complete Backup & Restore: Need Help!!! Thanks, Mike, for the excellent article. The challenge remains, though. I still get the message that "no valid backup locations were found" after each search by the complete PC backup recovery tool. Yet I can access the backup on the external HDD in Windows Explorer (and also the copy I made to the internal HDD as well). Need help on this one. Best regards. |

It does restore the same size partitions, so if you have changed hard drive size, you might look into that. Clark |

It does restore the same size partitions, so if you have changed hard drive size, you might look into that. Clark A few days ago, I decided to change my RAID 0 Strip from 64KB to 128KB. I made 5 back-ups on 3 different drives. All failed after I reset my RAID. I received several different error messages. I worked on trying to restore for over 12 hours. While reading all I could and trying some tricks with Diskpart. The time before I attempted to use it, it also failed. I believe that was due to having my Pagefile on a different partition. Just search the net, many people have problems with this program. So I would not be to concerned about it is not backing-up. But, will the dam thing restore. It should not be that complicated. If it can't due something or can't find something, it has the Setup CD, it should pass that up and move on, or revert to default. If your 80GB HD is to small and you buy a 1TB, it should work. At least when given the option to partition the disk as it wishes, to atleate restore the original. I never loose data. I back that up separate on a regular basis. I will be looking for a more fail-safe back-up program. This one I don't trust. The only Ultimate feature I ever used. I should have stayed with Home Premium. |
