Vista Tutorial - History and address bar

how do i turn off the history of my address bar. I do not want ANY websites
that I have previously viewed to show up in the drop down. I have already
turned auto complete off and changed history to 0(zero), but websites still
show up in the drop down.

In IE click the Tools menu, choose Internet Options. Under the General
Tab/Browsing History click the Setting button. Under History change the days
to keep pages to 0

Those website you visit on a particular day 'will' still show regardless of
whether you set history to zero or turn off auto complete. The method I use
is the third party freeware application CCleaner www.ccleaner.com I use it
at the end of my session to clear everything - cookies, history, temp
internet files etc. From the options section you can also set it to clean at
startup but, obviously, this will increase your PC's boot up time.

I've always found CCleaner an excellent application. The only downside is
that it also clears passwords and bank details (well cookies, anyway). That
doesn't bother me, but I believe there is a way of saving various website
cookies to prevent you losing any bank details, if you so require. CCleaner
also deletes the .DAT files from history, cookies, temp internet files, etc
which is ideal for the security conscious because people in the know can't
access the DAT files to find out where you have been on the web:-)

Wayne, he has already disabled AutoComplete. Even with AutoComplete disabled
the web history will still be visible. There used to be a problem with
Windows XP too whereby, if you set the history to zero days the current
day's web browsing was still visible. As both my AutoComplete and History
are disabled (well the history is set to zero days) even my daily web
excursions are still available for anyone to see. My only remedy is, as I
said in my earlier post, CCleaner.

John - You're right. On rereading, I see autocomplete is off.
But the dropdown menu appears to be the OPs main concern. I have my settings
correct and my dropdown doesn't funtion, although history still shows, at
least for the current day. They seem to be two seperate functions.
What does CCleaner do that Tools>Delete Browsing History, doesn't?
I suspect the OPs settings might be off if the dropdown still shows
websights visited. Wayne

Thanks John. I downloaded CCleaner to test it. Apart from the additional
things it deletes, the 5 main items found in Tools>Delete Browsing History
took longer to delete with CC. It also has to be run manually so would not
prevent web history from showing in the dropdown or history section.
What is needed is for History to never show, which of course must wait for
future editions of Windows. As one esteemed poster commented, with MS "zero
days means forever". Was that you?
There are a few other places on the computer that show all sites visited if
one wanted to check on someone's behaviour.
So ones tracks are never completely erased unless one actively seeks out and
deletes these files.
Of course, I never visit objectionable sites.
What I am wondering is why the OP still has the dropdown show when set not to.
-- I also noticed that the dropdown only works with the address bar upper
left by the back/foward buttons. I never use this.
On my home page I have 3 address bars. That one plus one on the other end,
