| | Downgrade from Vista Home Premium to Home Basic I had to downgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Vista Home Basic. Before that I made a backup. While downgrading, computer reminded me that all the files were automatically saved in Windows.old folder and they were...but now I can’t run any of the programs and consequently I can’t open any of the files either. I restored backup now that I have Vista Home Basic but it doesn’t seem to work at all...it has just been duplicated. Is there any way I could use these programs and files again or is everything lost for me? i am kinda lost right now since I don't have anything anymore ![]() REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP! ![]() |

As for applications, the change might have lost many of the necessary links and will require you to reload them. -- Ian |

| | Re: Downgrade from Vista Home Premium to Home Basic Once you install your new system, you can safely delete windows.old. Make sure you have a seperate backup of your data if necessary. | | Re: Downgrade from Vista Home Premium to Home Basic Hi, Applications would need to be reinstalled from their original installation media. Data files can be retrieved by taking ownership of the windows.old folder. To do so, right click it and select properties. On the security tab click advanced, then edit ownership on its tab. Make sure to check the box to allow the change to propogate to all subcontainers. Clicking apply will start the change, this may take some time. Once completed, move the files into your new user profile folders, and then you can safely delete windows.old to regain the disk space. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Ursa" <Ursa@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E581654E-1A74-4966-B679-F32AB48ABED4@microsoft.com... >I had to downgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Vista Home > Basic. | | Re: Downgrade from Vista Home Premium to Home Basic Exactly Ian, and I could not have said it any better. I don't understand the downgrade either. I don't understand everyone's problems with Vista either for that matter. I have had Vista and opted for Home Basic for two months now. Never an issue. Am I really that bright when it comes to computers and how to use them? I suggest people use F1. It works. Take the time to study. Read X1000 and you will learn. | | Re: Downgrade from Vista Home Premium to Home Basic Didn't you get a new product key with the version of Vista? Have you ever used the F1? Press the F1 and see what happens. It is truly amazing!
