That's the problem with people that don't use the proper tools for the access they have - they don't get the results they want. As for understanding FTP, lets just say that I've been using FTP since the very early 80's and completely understand what FTP is and does, even better than the "User Contribution" site you provided a link to. The problem is that the person is not using a Web Site authoring program, doesn't understand how to export the site, and only understand the MS way of doing things - which MOST of the web hosting world doesn't follow. -- Leythos - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address) |

| | Re: MVP's were are you Ok, I'm in Vista. Right click the network icon on the desktop. Select "Map network drive." In the "Map Network drive dialog" click : "Connect to a website that you can use to store your documents and pictures" Enter http://www.breladecockerspaniels.co.uk You will be prompted for user name and password, and when entered the link will be created in Computer. However, if the extensions are corrupt on the server, and they probably are if you've published using ftp:// have your host restore / repair / reinstall the extensions. Then make your new network place using the above procedure. -- Steve Easton Microsoft MVP FrontPage FP Cleaner http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm Hit Me FP http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/HitMeFP.htm "brelade" <brelade@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4A0F3304-6741-42E9-8CA0-31FF682A35A0@microsoft.com... > Steve, i can link with ftp://ftp.breladecockerspaniels.co.uk, but isn't this > still ftp > -- > brelade > > > "Steve Easton" wrote: > >> Ok, >> how about: >> ftp://ftp.breladecockerspaniels.co.uk >> >> >> >> -- >> >> Steve Easton >> Microsoft MVP FrontPage >> FP Cleaner >> http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm >> Hit Me FP >> http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/HitMeFP.htm >> >> "brelade" <brelade@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:1EE862DD-30CC-4294-B798-4A86E4253B8B@microsoft.com... >> > Steve many thanks - no joy >> > -- >> > brelade >> > >> > >> > "Steve Easton" wrote: >> > >> >> I've never used publisher but, >> >> instead of trying to add ftp://breladecockerspaniels.co.uk >> >> to network places, try adding >> >> www.breladecockerspaniels.co.uk >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> -- >> >> >> >> Steve Easton >> >> Microsoft MVP FrontPage >> >> FP Cleaner >> >> http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm >> >> Hit Me FP >> >> http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/HitMeFP.htm >> >> >> >> "brelade" <brelade@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> >> news:28319072-734A-4BD1-8F68-74B2590AE4F4@microsoft.com... >> >> >I am using MS Publisher 2007, and i am trying to connect to my server >> >> > (1and1.co.uk) >> >> > >> >> > I am having no peroblem in getting site uploaded and on the the web, but at >> >> > present it is not in the correct format for the response form on my contact >> >> > page to work, all other functions work ok, but i draw your attension the the >> >> > response from Microsoft regarding this form and http. >> >> > I have used wiseftp / filezilla, and an currently uploading to my server via >> >> > add new network connection on my computer, but all in ftp. >> >> > -- >> >> > brelade >> >> > >> >> > >> >> > "Steve Easton" wrote: >> >> > >> >> >> What "program" are you using to try to publish? >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> -- >> >> >> >> >> >> Steve Easton >> >> >> Microsoft MVP FrontPage >> >> >> FP Cleaner >> >> >> http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm >> >> >> Hit Me FP >> >> >> http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/HitMeFP.htm >> >> >> >> >> >> "brelade" <brelade@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> >> >> news:AC5CA151-222C-414C-815C-27918439B86E@microsoft.com... >> >> >> >I have posted this question several times with no takers. >> >> >> > >> >> >> > I am trying to establish a connection to my web server in http, with add new >> >> >> > network connection, it will only accept an address in ftp. >> >> >> > Is there a reason why i cannot input an http address. >> >> >> > >> >> >> > With XP in was in my network places, but the ability has been removed in >> >> >> > Vista. >> >> >> > >> >> >> > I have manage to establish a network connect with my web server by "add >> >> >> > Network Location", but with Vista I can only find an ftp:// way of uploading >> >> >> > to my web server with add a network: >> >> >> > >> >> >> > My web site requires to be uploaded with HTTP uploading protocol with FPSE, >> >> >> > but when I Specify the location of my website following the on screen >> >> >> > prompts, it will not allow me to input an http address, below are the >> >> >> > examples given from the wizard during the add network location process >> >> >> > >> >> >> > It gives examples: >> >> >> > 1. \\server\share (Share folder) >> >> >> > 2. http://webserver/share ; (Web share) >> >> >> > 3. ftp://mysite.co.uk (ftp site) >> >> >> > >> >> >> > The address I would like to add is: http://breladecockerspaniels.co.uk >> >> >> > >> >> >> > When I try to input http://breladecockerspaniels.co.uk ; it returns "the >> >> >> > folder you entered does not appear to be valid, please choose another". >> >> >> > >> >> >> > Many thanks >> >> >> > >> >> >> > -- >> >> >> > brelade >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> |

If using asp, asp.net or php correct. But not if you're publishing a web bot created form generated using Publisher or FrontPage. When publishing a web bot generated form using http, the necessary associated files are "Created" on the server by the extensions. They do not ever publish from the client to the server using http://, and using ftp bypasses the extensions. Therefore the aforementioned web bot generated forms will "Never" work. also fwiw, my first web was created with windows and notepad and dropped on the server by dragging and dropping using Internet Explorer. We get posts all of the time in the FP groups about broken forms.
