Windows Experience Index

I have a 2.2 rating on my WEI because that is the subscore for the Windows
Aero Desktop. The only problem is that my computer is currently running
Windows Vista Home Basic which as everyone should know, doesn't have Aero
effects. Going down the list of the WEI, I have a 4.5, 4.1, 2.2, 3.0, and a
4.4. What I want to know is if there is any way I can get rid of that
subscore since I am happy with Basic and don't plan on upgrading to a Vista
with Areo? I want to get a higher score so that I can run higher end
programs considering the fact that I have above a 4 on everything else. As a
note, this is a laptop with built in graphics, so I can't upgrade physically.

Re: Windows Experience Index

I could be wrong, but I don't think the WEI is going to prevent you from
installing any software.
Bascially, if your computer can handle the software, it shouldnt make any
difference what the WEI says (assuming your software doesn't need higher
graphics power in general whether or not you're running aero).

Re: Windows Experience Index

You cannot just "make the score higher" unfortunately. You also cannot
remove the Aero score. There actually is a limited form of Aero on Vista
Home Basic, and it's called "Windows Vista Standard". It does not have the
transparencies, live thumbnails, animations, and Flip3D, but it's based off
of Aero and still uses the WDM to run it. You should still be able to run
whatever program you want.
