Vista - Auto reboot loop while upgrading to vista

About a month ago I built a new system (MB MSI P6N-SLT, video MSI NX8500GT
TD256E, HD SAMSUNG HD501LJ, Memory 4GB) and installed WinXP and all the
updates. Since then other than the MIS updates I've not installed any
software or hardware. Just tonight I attempted Vista using my Windows ANytime
Upgrade. All went OK until the last phase, at 38% it jumped to 58%, rebooted
and at that point it was in a reboot loop. I tried all the safe options and
all but the "safe" would result in a auto-reboot. The "safe" mode booted but
then gave me a message that the upgrade could not continue in safe mode. At
the next reboot I selected the option to roll bact to XP.

Before attempting the upgrade to Vista, I downloaded XP updates and
installed, I then checked for more updates, there was none. I then ran the
Windows Upgrade Advisory following are the reported issues.

After installing Windows Vista, we recommend upgrading your video card.
Your current video card will not support the Windows Aeroâ„¢ user experience.
Contact your computer manufacturer or retailer to see if an upgrade is
available. Click here for a list of video cards that support Windows Aero.

Windows Messenger This program might have minor compatibility issues after
upgrading to Windows Vista. For more information, go to the vendor's website.

Also I noticed that the WUA reported that I only had 3GB of memory where as
when I run the MSI WMIinfo utility (it displays info about the entire system)
it reports that I have four 1GB memory modules.

I have no other software installed because I wanted to upgrade before
installing all of my software applications.

Suggestions woud be appreciate.

Hi,

First, uninstall any Nvidia drivers and revert to standard VGA before
attempting the upgrade. If you have any antivirus software installed,
uninstall it as well (not just disable, uninstall).

Normal for 32-bit Vista, as some of the memory addresses are reserved by the
system. Vista will show the remainder (normally between 2.8 and 3.2GB
depending on the system).

Why aren't you doing a custom install if you are wanting to reinstall all
your programs.
