No, and in fact using some of the registry tricks (isshortcut) from earlier
versions of Windows has caused other, unforeseen issues.

If you mean get rid of the words 'shortcut', just right click on the
shortcut then rename and type what you prefer or just use the
backspace key to delete the words shortcut, leaving the rest.

He does not mean the rename he means the tick overlay on second shortcuts
that are not the original program one placed there. There was a way in XP
but I am yet to discover how in Vista.
