| | iTunes as default player Everytime I highlight more than one song and click play all, it opens windows media player, is there a way to make it open with iTunes? Also, I've gone into Set Program Access and Computer Defaults, extended custom, selected iTunes as my default media player and then clicked ok, but everytime I go back into it, it keeps selecting use my current media player. How do I fix this so it's alway iTunes? |

| | Re: iTunes as default player Hi Boe08-- Open iTunes. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences. Click the Advanced button and then click the General tab. Click "Use iTunes as the default player for all audio files" to select this option. Note: Deselecting this option tells Windows to use the default application you used before iTunes. | | Re: iTunes as default player That probably won't work well in Vista, since that requires administrative credentials. Do they handle that? -- Speaking for myself only. | | Re: iTunes as default player Do they register for the Set User Defaults control panel? That would be the ideal place to manage this. Note that "use my current media player" in that context means to use whatever is selected. It's not checking what that is - in your case that should be iTunes. The Set Program Access and Defaults implementation is going to run the iTunes association code - if that doesn't work, if they have registered for Set User Defaults, that will run the system's association code with the specified iTunes registrations, which would potentially work better. -- Speaking for myself only. | | Re: iTunes as default player I'm having a similar problem... iTunes used to be registered in the Set User Defaults but after the latest update from iTunes, it's now not in there. I'm assuming this would be something that Apple would have to resolve due to an upgrade? Or could it be related to permissions and not being able to properly register those keys when performing the upgrade? | | Re: iTunes as default player You really should check with Apple about this, as if this is an actual issue they could potentially resolve it for you. =) It is unlikely that it is a permissions issue, but they would be best at triaging this. -- Speaking for myself only. | | Re: iTunes as default player Thanks, zachd. After searching Google and the MS site -- each company is responsible for following the proper guidelines to have their software comply and be listed in the Default Programs listing. However, it's still unclear why an update to the iTunes software would remove that from the listing. I'll check with Apple and see if I can get anywhere with them. I've had a post in there about this issue for about 7 or 8 months now with no solution. Only after rebuilding my system was I able to get things back to normal. And then after the latest update, back in the same boat. All the best.
