Vista background went blank.

My desktop had a photo and went blank. I've tried replacing it by clicking
on personalizing, browsing and clicking on a photo but it will only respond
and set colors.--

Hi Ed-

Do you have a restore point to before you lost it? What happens when you go
to C:\Users\Bob's Profile\Pictures and click from there?

Re: Vista background went blank.

Try this. Go to Control Panel (Classic View) > Ease of Access Center, and
click on "Make the computer easier to see". Make sure "Remove background
images" does not have a checkmark (Apply, Save).

Re: Vista background went blank.

Dean--

It's not necessary for classic view to access any of these settings. You
just rt. click control panel on the start menu>type adjust in search.

Re: Vista background went blank.

Hi Chad. Yes, there are several roads to Rome : )

By way of explanation, it's the way I get there, because the non Classic,
less iconic view of Control Panel Home seems slightly inscrutable at a
glance, and demands a bit of reading, with further layers revealed when you
click on something, which then I have to type all out, if I'm giving
directions. The search box might work. But I copied and pasted "Make the
computer easier to see" in Control Panel, and it told me to search Help and
Support (it couldn't find a match). Then I shortened it to "easier to see",
and got a list. My goal really, is to figure out the shortest path I can
think of, so that I thereby type as little as possible; my typing speed is
quite poor (I love the Copy Address as Text feature, which seems based on
Classic View). It's really not meant to be a directive as to how one should
use their Control Panel.

Too, I recall a particular post months ago, where I was trying to instruct
the OP to a Control Panel item, and they just couldn't find it. 7 or 8
replies later, I finally came up the the idea to switch the Control Panel to
its Classic View, and Voila, they found it.

Sooo, there's the history of all that...

But thanks for the heads up!

Re: Vista background went blank.

You're 100% right--there are a lot of ways to skin a cat, and if it seemed
like carping or over parsing on my part (and it does to me on reflection) I
apologized. It was a good idea to take a look at that check box--and
sometimes pics used for wall paper can come from (and end up in) more than
one file and off the beaten path as well.

Snip..
This is the ONLY thing I dislike about Vista thus far... IT and the
latest version of WORD.. I KNEW where all the options that I wanted
were located.. NOW they've all been changed..
The other day I used the "new" WORD.. and had to look for 30 minutes
to find how to "Save as"... now SAVE was right there in plain
sight.. but you had to hunt to find "Save AS"... Are they changing
things just to confuse me?

Re: Vista background went blank.

Once you get used to the ribbon it's not hard to find what you were used to;
and there are a lot more options now. It was about getting features
accessible without having dozens of menus.

What MSFT changes just to confuse you are names of dozens of things like
Passport to Windows Live ID.
