Cannot install a program

I am trying to install a program, but when it is
finalizing the installation of the DVD, I get the following dialog box:

"The following application should be closed before continuing the install:
Windows Explorer (Process Id: 1888)"

I get that, even thought I do not have any Explorer open, that I know of.

Please advise what is what this dialog information is trying to tell me.

Thanks in advance.

It's a bizarre request from an installer, but if you trust the software,
then you can kill explorer via Task Manager

Ctrl-Shift-Esc > Processes (tab) > Show processes from all users >
Right-click explorer > End Process
The PID column will show you the process corresponding to 1888
(addable via View > Select Columns, if not visible)

To restart it (from within Task Manager)
File > Run > explorer

Re: Cannot install a program

Do I restart the explorer after I installed the new program and then
restarted the computer? (I am not very computer literate, as you see). So
I gather that the explorer is only termporarily off untill I restart the
computer, is that correct?
Thanks again,

If you've restarted the computer then there shouldn't be any need.

So yes, you're correct. Assuming no changes made by the installer to the
system in this area, explorer will restart after a reboot.
