| | Re: newsgroup in window vista Hi, Outlook is an MS Office program for email and scheduling functions, it does not support newsgroups. For those, the default program is Vista's Windows Mail. To set up newsgroups, click tools/accounts and then click the 'add' button. Follow the prompts. The Microsoft Communities are included by default in Windows Mail. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com <ccclai@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1186477271.747908.169800@e9g2000prf.googlegroups.com... > How to set up Newsgroup account in Vista Microsoft outlook? > |

| | Re: newsgroup in window vista You can't use Outlook for Newsgroups. You will need to use Windows mail instead. The OP can add a "News" link to the Outlook menu which will call Windows Mail. The Outlook help files will tell the OP how to do that. As a confusion factor, when Windows Mail is called from Outlook it will be labelled "Microsoft Outlook Newsreader", don't know why they did that? -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://blinkynet.net/comp/uip5.html |

Perhaps for the same reason they gave Outlook and Outlook Express (two very different programs) such similar names. They thought it would help confuse people. ;-) More seriously, I don't know the answer, but I do know that it's a lot easier to recognize such confusion after the fact than before it. | | Re: newsgroup in window vista With Office Outlook 2003 there was an option to connect to Outlook Express newsgroups but I haven't looked for the same in Outlook 2007. My point of view with Outlook 2003 opening Outlook Express Newsgroup application is that, effectively, you are opening two application instead of one. Surely if Outlook is accessing Outlook Express then you may as well open Outlook Express ( or in Vista's case Windows Mail) rather than waste time clicking the Outlook icon to open Outlook and then having to click a newsgroup button in Outlook to open Outlook Express newsgroup app. Bit long winded in my opinion; it is simply easier to open Outlook Express or Windows Mail. -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows - Shell/User Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". Probably a valid point but my point was that it's confusing to users to have Outlook rename OE or Windows Mail to Outlook News Reader or whatever. It leads to questions from users and it would have been MUCH simpler to leave the name either OE or Windows Mail so people will know what they're using. To me, it's equally easy to click on the Outlook "news" button or open OE but then I don't use either very often. -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://blinkynet.net/comp/uip5.html |
