Eratic shift key

When logged on to Remote desktop with my Vista Business laptop my shift key
works very eratically. Sometimes it caps the next letter, sometimes it
doesn't cap anything. Other times it works fine. This just started in the
past two weeks, before that it was fine. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Most likely a hardware issue. There could be chocolate chip cookie
crumbs under the key (I've seen it happen) that shifts around making it
intermittent. With the PC turned off, blow some compressed air in
amongst the keys to blow all the accumulated gunk out. You might have to
tilt it or turn it upside down to get it all out. Or pop off the key and
see if there is any other obstruction underneath...but be careful and
gentle.

It's also possible that particular key is just wearing out but I would
try a good cleaning first.

Of course, if this happens *only* when using Remote Desktop, there's
likely something else causing it. Maybe IE cookie crumbs instead of
chocolate chip cookie crumbs...

Re: Eratic shift key

Thanks for the reply. This is a new (6 month old) laptop so I doubt it is
worn out. Because it only happens when logged on to remote desktop I doubt
it is hardware related. Our IT person said only the right shift key works
while in remote desktop but it happens with either shift key. Plus it just
started about two weeks ago. Never had a problem before. I work remotely so
I don't know when the office installs upgrades, etc. My laptop is Vista but
I log on to an XP machine at the office. I doubt this is the issue, again,
because it just started.

Hopefully, someone has had this same exact problem and I'll hear from them.

Thanks again.
