Vista - LAN vs Wireless Connection

I recently purchased a new laptop and having trouble with a configuration.

I am running windows vista ultimate and have a wifi card as well as a LAN
port. Whenever I am at my house and plugged into to the LAN connection, I
would like my pc to direct all traffic through that. But when I remove the
LAN cable I want all traffic obviously pointed towards my wifi adapter. I
have manually changed the metrics in my tcp/ip settings to 1 for LAN and 2
for Wifi, but it doesn't seam to do the trick.

I can tell that some (not all) traffic is still going over the Wifi
connection by looking at Task Manager, Networking tab. Vista recognizes
my Wifi speed at 54Mbps and the LAN connection is recognized at 100Mbps.

Can anyone help me configure vista such that all traffic is routed to the
LAN connection when it is available?

Simple, you know which one you want to use so you enable that NIC and
disable the other NIC, via the Vista O/S.

That's about as simple as you can get with it.

So why make it anymore difficult that that?

Try the Windows Mobility Center... it will let you enable/disable your
network connections rather easily. It can be found in the Accessories folder
in the Start menu or just type "mobility" in the search box. Whatever floats
yer boat.

I see that. But was hoping windows could just detect the best route
without manual intervention. Assuming by the responses that this is not
possible??

Well... don't think it's possible... not out of the box, anyway... there may
be third party tools to do it.
