| | Safely Remove Hardware After (successfully) updating NVIDIA network controllers and graphics I notice that for the first time Windows loads a "Safely Remove Hardware" notification icon for my internal (boot) hard disk. I want to get rid of this as it might inadvertently get selected when I am removing something else. Can I do that selectively for the hard disk item only and if so how? |

| | Re: Safely Remove Hardware I created that problem for myself once, but I believe it was with XP and/or XP x64. You might try searching Planetamd64.com. I believe that issue was addressed there. It's been more than a year since that happened to me, so my memory is fuzzy. It definitely has something to do with how you load the NVIDIA controllers and whether there's some you shouldn't load if you want to address this problem. (There are tons of folks who will tell you this is not a problem, but I think it is.) | | Re: Safely Remove Hardware Thanks DP. After Googling I notice that there are loads of folks complaining about this but it is a feature of the hard disk controller ... not a real problem. Clearly the latest Nvidia update merely sought to "make that real" for the hard drive as well, (which it supports). I have also noticed that many have written to the effect that should a person try and unload the drive it wouldn't work anyway although I am not about to try that! Some have even gone so far as to roll back the drivers ... which seems rather unneccesary to me if the only problem is a redundant icon. I tend to update NVIDIA drivers as these have never given me problems before and presumably there are good reasons for updating them. I must admit though that my heart is always in my mouth a bit ... especially with hardware updates.
