| | very irritating errors Hi I upgraded my windows XP pro to VISTA ultimate and been facing very irritating problems. 1. Every now and then, a popup window appears with message "windows modules installer stopped working and was closed" and this happens when I am running windows update. Following this message, windows update seems to have stopped though the windows update window shows "installing updates". 2. Whenever I try to open control panel, it crashes windows explorer and control panel never opens. Unless I can fix the above two problems, transition to VISTA will be regretful and I will move back to XP. John |

| | Re: very irritating errors I suggest that if you can not fix your problems, that you save all your files and do a clean install of Vista. Something might have gone wrong with the upgrade, and I'm sure you will be much happier if you can get everything working properly. Not sure what you mean by "browse"... are you opening a cmd window or what? Well, regardless, from that problem and the above problems sounds to me like you either have a hw issue or the Vista upgrade choked on something. Did you run a chkdsk before you upgraded to Vista? If not, I would suggest running a chkdsk now. Open a cmd window with run as administrator and run chkdsk without any parameters. If it finds any problems it will tell you. If chkdsk doesn't find any problems, you may want to try running a repair by booting from the Vista DVD and selecting repair (not sure where, exactly, the repair choice is...) Lang |

| | Re: very irritating errors Thanks Lang. By browse I mean opening root drive C: or any of the subfolders in C: using windows explorer which I trigger using "Run" tool in the Startup menu. I had not run chkdsk before upgrading but I did run repair using VISTA DVD. Anyway, I will run chkdsk as advised and post the results.
