User created system restore points disappear

This has happened on my Vista HP system several times.

Anyone know why this might happen?

(I haven't run any disk clean-up processes.)

You are using a dual-boot with WIn XP? If yes, this is a Windows XP
feature.

If not, some third party defragmenation tools, virus scanners and so on are
causing a bunch of shadow copies - as a result, the free storages exhaused
and old restore points are deleted. Details are discussed here
http://gborn.blogger.de/stories/790875/ (but unfortunately in German only).

Maybe it helps.

Are you dual-booting with XP? If yes, this is a known issue. Are you
running any Symantec products? If yes, this is a known issue. Here are

Thanks. I translated it using Google.

I'm using Avast AV and a boot time defrag so perhaps that's
the problem but it presents quite a dilemma.

Nope. Just Vista HP.

Nope. Just Avast AV.

Thanks anyway.

Re: User created system restore points disappear

I have a 3rd party defragmenting program that will delete the restore points
and shadow copies every time I do a boot time defrag.

That being said, I don't use system restore anyway. I have it turned off and
use TrueImage to make daily, incremental, system images.

I'll assume that's what O&O is doing to my system then.
Cheers.
