Office 2000 Professional

Are there any known problems installing and running Office 2000 Professional
on Windows Vista Home Premium? I use Office 2000 on my desktop and have no
need to upgrade to Office 2007, thus wanting to also install it on a new
Toshiba laptop using Vista. Thanks in advance.

Like Vista is to XP, Office 2007 is a bulkier, more restrictive version.
You are currently better off with the lower version. 2000 or even 2003
work well even on new systems, but, like in general, you're better off
running it on XP or other rather than on Vista.

So try it. If it doesn't work there is still no need to blow several
hundred dollars on office 2007 - try OpenOffice.org - won't cost a dime
and will probably fulfill all your needs.

There are some issues with Outlook2000. Otherwise no problems.

Re: Office 2000 Professional

Why would he want to waste his time with OpenOffice when he has Office 2000
Professional?

OO is not ready for prime time.

OO certainly IS ready for prime time. Please note I suggested he try
office 2000 first. If he can't get it to go, there are two options - OO is
one of them.

Re: Office 2000 Professional

You're right. I guess I missed the part that you suggest she try 2000
first. Sorry about that.

Re: Office 2000 Professional

I believe you'll have issues with Outlook2000 due to changes in Vista...much
has been written. As far as the other programs go, I have had only one issue
but otherwise they work fine.

The issue involves starting Word by clicking a .doc file. I get an error
that the file can't be found. But if File-Open then all works as usual. I
haven't pursued this issue but I think it involves compatibility files for
programs 'unknown' to Vista.
