Vista Tutorial - AppBar Bullet??? Anybody

Hello, apologies if this turns out not to be a 'vista issue'. Past few days
when I have gone to shut down my Pc a message window appears and says AppBar
Bullet is still running and preventing the Pc from shutting down... I do not
know what this is therefore I do not want it on my Pc. How it got there is
also a mystery to me as I feel sure I did not deliberately download/install
this program/service. It does not show on a windows explorer search nor is it
listed in start up programs or services nor is it listed in task manager
processess tab. Basically can anybody explain what is going on here. Thank
you in advance.

An application desktop toolbar (also called an appbar) is a window that is
similar to the Microsoft Windows taskbar. It is anchored to an edge of the
screen, and it typically contains buttons that give the user quick access to
other applications and windows. Do you have anything that resembles that
description on your desktop? Some notebook touchpad drivers have this
function...

I do not have anything on my desktop that resembles this. I know as much as I
have been able to investigate with my limited knowledge but I still don't
know what it is..what it does..how it got there..why I can't find where it
lives on my Pc..whyit is so difficult to get rid of etc etc etc

Hmmm. Some programs have the ability to make an Appbar, like a 3rd party
clock program. Often these are an option of a program that runs in the
Notification area, or Tray, of the Taskbar. If you right-click on the
program's icon in the Notification area, it may have something like an
"anchor" option to put a window on the edge of the screen, and an option to
close the "anchor" when you right-click on the docked window.

Besides Windows icons like Volume and Network, do you have other programs
running in your Taskbar's tray area?

Try this. Right-click the Windows Sidebar icon, before you shut down, and
choose Exit. Does the alert persist when you try to turn off the computer?

In other words, I'm guessing you may have a Gadget that's not quitting
properly, lingering a little too long. Quitting Windows Sidebar before
shutting down will test this...

Good morning dean-dean. Thank you for your continued interest in this issue.
I tried as you suggested and the alert did not kick in this time. You may
well be onto something there. My only 'but' is since we have opened this
dialogue the alert has been lets say temperamental i.e. sometimes it kicks in
other times not. I say 'but' because other than two default windows gadgets I
only have a UK radio player installed. I will remove the radio player and see
how it goes. Fingers crossed that this is the end of the issue and should it
prove so I will respond in the appropriate manner to afford you your well

Oh dear I'm sorry to have to report but even with the radio player
uninstalled and windows sidebar closed before log-off the alert is still
appearing so it would seem that the problem lies elsewhere ergo unfortunately
this question remains open.....
