AHCI.......confused.

Hi to all NG,
before reinstalled the operating system in the BIOS, I have changed the
configuration from SATA as (IDE) to SATA as (AHCI), because my hard disk is
SATA II.
I need to ask you (please): to make the HD work in AHCI mode, do I have
to install any other drive?
if the answer is yes... which drive and how?
in the BIOS, do I have to make other changes?
I hope you can help me, because I could not find the correct answer.
forgive my English and my "ignorance"
thanks in advance
