Intermittent loss of mouse

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Editon and it keeps losing the mouse,
randomly and intermitently. Is there a solution it can be annoying on
Battlefield 2142 when your mouse goes off.

What mouse?

Have you downloaded and installed the latest Vista drivers from the
manufacturer's web site?

Go to the nearest store that sells batteries and procure 2 new ones.Bring them home and put them into the mouse making sure you eject to previous ones to the garbage bin.
