There's a thread on this in an MSDN forum you should read: http://forums.microsoft.com/forums/S...3330&SiteID=17 My theory is that there is excessive per-item overhead that kicks hard when assumptions about efficiency (fast metadata access within NTFS structure, fast device access) don't hold true. I raised this as a Vista Wish, here: http://cquirke.spaces.live.com/blog/...8C23!288.entry The relationship between shell and networking can be more complicated than it looks. For example, if the shell references slow network resources to populate the namespace or call persistent handlers, it can impact on local file operations that "aren't on the network". This stuff rendered Explorer all but unusable in the Vista Beta 2 builds I tested; it's better now, and at least the "green thermometer" doesn't have to complete before you can work (as it used to). I'd try an alternate file manager. It's pathetic when the primary file management shell is so buggy one is forced to the command line to do simple "bulk" file operations, and it's a shame because in many other ways, I really like Vista's Explorer. >-------------------- ----- ---- --- -- - - - - Tip Of The Day: To disable the 'Tip of the Day' feature... >-------------------- ----- ---- --- -- - - - - |
