External LCD Monitor has no red color

In the course of updating drivers and adjusting configuration, I lost the
ability of my external LCD monitor to display any red color, however the
color displays fine on the laptop screen. I think the problem is caused by a
Vista configuration because red does appear in the DOS pop-up screen that
opens when I check the monitor's manual adustment.
My system is a Lenovo T60 (dual CPU, 1.5 MB RAM, 100 GB HD) with Vista
Business 32 bit preinstalled. The graphics configuration includes an ATI
Radeon 1400 & ATI's Catalyst Control, Spyder2Express color calibration,
ThinkPad LCD screen (1450x1050), and a Dell Ultrasharp 17" 1704 LCD monitor
connected to the laptop through an XGA cable (no DVI socket on Thinkpad). All
downloads are current and there's no obviously incorrect setting that I can
see in any of the above.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled all the video related drivers.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Phil

It's the VGA cable OR the VGA connector on the laptop - give it some
gentle pressure and see if the red comes back...
Try another VGA cable if you can...

Re: External LCD Monitor has no red color

Hi Bigguy,

Thanks, I think you were right. Does that mean that the monitor's hard
adjustment features are hardwired into it and don't use the connection to the
laptop at all?

Regards,

Phil

Re: External LCD Monitor has no red color

Yep, that's right - the monitor self-test is internally generated so if it
shows red the monitor is okay. I'd suspect the cable or the connection at
the PC or monitor end.
