| | Installer keeps on running Hi, I have just been setting up a new PC with Vista Ultimate. Adding my application software was going OK but now every time I re-boot, put a CD/DVD in the drive windows Installer pops up and comes up with "Preparing to install" and then waits a few secs and stops. There is no clue what it is trying to install. I Googled this problem and checked out a few web sites, notably ask Leo at http://ask-leo.com/windows_installer...eboot_why.html and then tried to use the Windows Installer Cleanup but again it is just not clear what software is causing this. I have also used Max Registry Cleaner but this does not seem to fix the problem. The only solution I can think of is to unload all software, reinstall windows and start over. But it has taken me 2 days to get this far so I am reluctant to do so Any ideas will be very welcome! John |

| | Re: Installer keeps on running Hi, Try this: Click start, type CMD and right click the entry in the start menu, choose 'run as administrator'. Click continue on the UAC prompt. From the command prompt, run these commands, hitting <enter> between each: msiexec /unregister msiexec /regserver exit The reboot and check to see that the behavior has stopped. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "John" <nospam@nospam.co.uk> wrote in message news:850B1630-55BA-4497-8DA6-FDB34C34E602@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > I have just been setting up a new PC with Vista Ultimate. | | Re: Installer keeps on running Peter, I have already tried that - I got it from Ask Leo site. The problem is I have no idea what software is causing the problem, so is the only way forward to use the tool to delete all the install info and then start again?
