Windows explorer Views keep changing

I'm using Windows ultimate 64 bit. Overall, I like Vista and my
experience is, its very stable.

Windows Explorer (the file manager) is driving me to distraction. The
Views keep changing. I set my default view as I want it, then do
'Tools','Folder options', 'View', and 'Apply to Folders'

For that session Explorer looks has I want it to look. Then the next
time I start Explorer after a reboot some of the views have changed. Not
all of them, it seems to be completely random. Even the columns can
change as well as size of the icons. I tried both turning on and off
'Remember each folders settings' but it has no effect.

Can someone please explain this strange behaviour or better still tell
me how to fix it? I've used Vista Business (32 bit) and Explorer is the
on that PC also.

Regards

Chas

Re: Windows explorer Views keep changing

Chas - this problem is infuriating and a Google search shows that it has
been raised endlessly. None of the suggested fixes that I have tried have
worked for very long. I am watching this thread in the slender hope that
this time we will grope our way to a real solution. I feel that it should be
possible to list the required properties for each of the folder types in a
password-protected text file somewhere and that should stay in operation
until deliberately changed. Doug.

Hi Chas and Doug,

Try doing the Step Two method at this link. It will reset the view settings and allow Vista to remember your last settings again.

Thanks, Shawn, that seems to have done the trick. I have increased the
number of folders from 5000 to 20000 and hopefully that will ensure the
changes stick.
