| | Vista - ? Mark - Current window Help In XP there was a little ? mark button next to the X button on the top right. It would give you help just for that window. In Vista I do not see any of the ? buttons. Is there a hotkey for the current window help? -- Rox |

| | Re: Vista - ? Mark - Current window Help F1 gives you the complete help. I am talking about the ? mark button that only gave you help on the fields in that window. The cursor would change to a black ? mark and when you moved it to a field on that current window it would give you help for that field only. I am looking for the same thing in Vista. -- Rox "Dave Cox" wrote: > =?Utf-8?B?Um94?= <Rox@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in > news:651B6991-B8B4-4AE7-9FB6-39F836FF96DA@microsoft.com: > > > In XP there was a little ? mark button next to the X button on the > > top right. > > It would give you help just for that window. | | Re: Vista - ? Mark - Current window Help Hi Jan.. I will only show you one example but there are many other windows that don't give the field help or explanation.. Vista - Go to Internet Explorer >> Internet options >> Advanced Tab.. Click on the ? mark top right you get a help window that is a generic help. In XP IE6 the cursor changes to an arrow with a ? and when you rolled that cursor over one of the chooses in the advanced window like "Enable personalized favorites menu" the cursor would pop up a balloon window with the explanation about what this option means (a definition of the field). That one line or field. That is what I mean.. What happen to the ? Button for the explanation (definition ) for the indiviual fields or options in that window. It seems to me Vista has gone backwards in Technology for the user. This is not the only place I have seen this backwards Technology in Vista.. It is very hard to see the highlights in Vista. XP's Window Explorer, a highlighted word, line, etc was a line displayed in the opposite color (word black normal - highlight words white with dark background around the word or line). Vista it is a very pale transparent color on top of line. Very hard to see the difference when dragging and dropping on top of a highlighted line with what is being dragged is also transparent. Than other places were its takes 6 clicks to do a task that only took 2 clicks in XP.. Sorry, I am a retired System Analyst and Engineer from Tandem Computers and have worked on OS's since 1969, this is the first upgrade OS that I have seen that takes the user backwards in easy of use. Under the hood Vista has made a lot of improvements, but users do not see that, only the number of clicks do to there job, easier to understand without manuals, and fast to spot functions on the screen. A highlight should be a very noticeable highlight, not a very pale transparent shade on top of the word(s) or line, at a quick glance you will miss it. I am not good at writing and I hope this doesn't sound like I am angry because I am not. I am in work mode were I was to help analyse OS's and list what needs to be fixed for our developers, just a job. I see, they do seem to have changes this. Other non-microsoft products should still work the same however. > It seems >to me Vista has gone backwards in Technology for the user. Possibly with new supertip (or whatever they call it) they don't see a need for it anymore. Much better than a tooltip since it's multi line. Although I note they don't use this on the screen you mention. >This is not the only place I have seen this backwards Technology in Vista.. >It is very hard to see the highlights in Vista. Vista is a big change no doubt and it certainly does feel cumbersom to use at first. I've been using it for nearly a year now I find I get around far quicker - I use various OS during the day and I get terribly frustrated when working on say an NT machine. >A highlight should be a very noticeable highlight, not a very >pale transparent shade on top of the word(s) or line, at a quick glance you >will miss it. I am in work mode were I was to help analyse OS's and list >what needs to be fixed for our developers, just a job. From what I've read in this group, a lot of complaining goes on. Some is justified, most isn't. The key is that many people are here to help so if something is frustrating with Vista it may be that one of us can help either by pointing out a quicker way or how to change that behaviour in Vista. Although few believe it, feedback does get back to Microsoft.
