| Guest | Vista won't show IE shortcut icons I have upgraded to Vista. When I place a shortcut to a web site from IE on the desktop I do not get a specific web site icon as I did with XP. Any suggestions? |

I think the reason why favicons no longer show up on the desktop may be due to the fact that IE runs in its own user space when running in Protected Mode (UAC). At least we can drag shortcuts from the IE address bar still. I could not do that when running IE through RUNAS in XP. ss. |

| Guest | Re: Vista won't show IE shortcut icons Right-click on Desktop, select Personalize, select Display Settings, then change Color from 32 bit to 16 bit, Apply, and back to 32 bit, Apply. This refreshes the icon cache. If you get your icons back but soon they are back to the IE generic, go to your icon, right-click, select Properties, General tab, check Read-Only, Apply. This will usually help retain the desired icon. There's also a nice program called FavOrg that harvests and manages Favorites icons. "Synapse Syndrome" wrote:
