Vista - Internet explorer has stopped working

I don't know why but I've suddenly got a message that Internet Explorer has
stopped working (it does not even open), which is followed by a message that
microsoft will let you know if the problem is fixed. I'm not that clever
with computers but I can't find any way to uninstall/reinstall/repair
Internet Explorer 7. I have firefox working, but certain links try to open
in Internet Explorer and I get this message. Any suggestions would be
appreciated, thanks.

try running Internet Explorer without addons: Press Windows-key + R ->
iexplore -extoff -> Enter . Does the problem persist?
