| | Using Acronis True Image boot CD with Vista Beta 2? Hello! I have the current build of True Image Home 9.0 (the one released a few days ago). I was able to make the boot CD successfully and backup my Vista Beta 2 hard disk to external USB hard disk. Good! Ghost 10 would not let me do that from it's boot CD (thanks to those who recommended trying Acronis...) I was even then able to reformat the HD, put XP on that hard disk, then use the boot CD to restore my Vista image to the same computer (erasing the partition again). Also Good! But then I tried to move the Vista image to *another* computer (different model laptop, but same HAL) and got a blue screen at startup and Vista Beta 2 will not boot properly -- even in "Safe" mode. Do you know if there's some trick to be able to use True Image to migrate Vista Beta from one set of hardware to another? Somehow by prepping the Vista OS *before* imaging it? (ie, must I use "sysprep"? Something other command?) Any insight anyone here might have would be appreciated! - Steve |

| | Re: Using Acronis True Image boot CD with Vista Beta 2? Not sure but I think when you install, MS OS's write some kind of hardware id/descriptor someplace whether the mbr or regeistry so now it sees itself installed on different HW and won't boot. Of course if the new lappy uses a different chipset than the original it won't boot since it'll be seeing the old drivers. | | Re: Using Acronis True Image boot CD with Vista Beta 2? You may have to fix or restore the MBR to get it to boot. There are many posts regarding similar issues (not specifically for Vista) on the forums at acronis.com. -- Yesterday is a canceled check; tomorrow is a promissory note; today is the only cash you have. Spend it wisely.
