| | Dial-up Problem Vista Home Premium 32 bit; Celeron 2.8; IE-7: Windows Mail Am having a problem with dial-up. In the dial-up Connect window, I check "Save Username and password" and set it to "Anyone who uses this computer", and connect successfully. But the next time I try to connect, the checkbox is cleared and I have to reset it. If I don't do this, the connection either fails with Error 691 on "Verifying Username and password", or if it connects, it randomlly disconnects while trying to read mail or surfing web. (In this case, Network and Sharing Center reverts to "Local Only" for Internet Connection). I have tried all the obvious options with no success. This problem just surfaced a few weeks ago; I suspect it may have been caused by one of the Updates. Am I missing something in the options or is a registry hack needed? One other thing: In properties, both IPv4 and IPv6 are installed. Could this problem be related to IPv6? |

| | Re: Dial-up Problem Hsherman, I bugged this problem during the early beta of Vista and was told that the 'save password' option was disabled by default. My machine displays the user name, but the password box is blank until I type in the password. Unfortunately, I too have the same problem with user name and password which, obviously to both of use, is a pain in the butt. I can't say that I have any connection problems though. My DSL modem connects regardless of whether the user name and password option is checked or not (well assuming I put the password in, of course). -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows - Shell/User Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | | Re: Dial-up Problem OK, I seem to have solved my problem by checking "Connect Automatically" in the inital dialup window. Vista remembers this setting, bypasses the second dialup window and connects without any of the problems outlined below. Like others, I have always been wary of allowing programs to connect to the internet automatically, but in this case it seems to be the only way. Any ideas as to why Vista will remember the settings in one case and not the other?
