Internet explorer icon gone

In Win Vista 64-bit, the desktop Internet Explorer icon has disappeared. I
would like it back, and not as a shortcut, but the way it was. I have browsed
for a solution, and many suggest this:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel

4. In the right hand pane, double-click
{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} key.
5. Enter dword value as 0 to enable the Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop.

It does NOT work in my system

Help, please. Thank you.

Hi Michael,

Try using the download I have for the IE icon on the desktop. Be sure to refresh the desktop afterwards to see the new IE icon.

RE: Internet explorer icon gone

Start Orb> Programs> IE7> right-click> Send to> Shortcut on desktop.
and put up with it.

People on here have more probs than you on here; format the drive and
reinstall if you are not happy!

Michael, I have the same problem with the start menu, but after a reboot the

RE: Internet explorer icon gone

I found the solution: The regkey
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel)
did NOT work for me, because I use classic start menu. Instead use
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\classicstartmenu
and alter the reg-key mentioned to 0 (from 1).... Voila!
