Desktop toolbar - want it to show only desktop icons.

For some reason the desktop toolbar has icons on it that I don't want and I
want to get rid of them.

1. There is a "Public" icon that I don't want on the toolbar...it is not on
my desktop so I don't want it on the toolbar. There is no option to delete
it...I don't care if I have to hack the registry...I want it gone.

2. Internet Explorer - I wanted a shortcut to IE on my desktop, so I created
one. However, there seems to be one put on the toolbar automatically. I've
deleted it several times, but it keeps coming back. The shortcut on my
desktop is also on my toolbar which is exactly what I want...I want the
automatic icon removed from my desktop toolbar.

Re: Desktop toolbar - want it to show only desktop icons.

Try this:

Right click on the shortcut you want to delete and select properties
On the general tab the Location field will show where that shortcut is (you
will probably need to click on the text and Use the arrow keys to see all of
it)
In my case it is in:
C:\Users\USERID\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Browse to that location and delete the short cut and it is gone
You can also add short cuts here and they will be added

Good luck

Hi Steve,

If that does not help, here is a way to create your own custom desktop toolbar with whatever you want in it.

Toolbar for the Desktop
