Vista won't hibernate; Media Player the cause?

I have a new Acer Aspire 3100 notebook running Vista Home Basic. Since buying
it two weeks ago, it locked up, ie, failed, every time I tried to Hibernate
or Sleep it. After a bunch of hit-or-miss time with the Task Manager, it
appears that Windows Media Player sometimes loads itself up as a Process (not
as an application), and in that state, the PC locked up everytime I tried to
Hibernate it. If I manually end the Process of Windows Media Player in Task
Manager, it seems to work every time.
1 - Has anyone else encountered this?
1.a. - Is Media Player a likely suspect?
2 - How can one keep Media Player from loading ITSELF as a process? Thanks.
JL

play around with the settings try to find something that requires media
player to run in the background i have the same computer except that mine
aspire 5100 vista home premium, and haven't that problem, althought all the
features like something to keep media or any other program are always set to
run when i run them. hope this helps.

Maybe it's IE that causes Media Player to load up. Is there a decent version
of Netscape out there for Vista?

Probably, but you are better off with Firefox, which shares the same
ancestry:

Re: Vista won't hibernate; Media Player the cause?

Based on the way that Sync Center, Mobile Device Center, and Media Player
(all in Vista Home Basic) behave when I connect my Treo, I suspect that is
these programs that are bringing up Media Player in the background. Media
Player seems to want to sync music and similar files REEEEEAL bad, and so it
may be coming up in the background as a Process every time I connect the
Treo.

Anyone know how the keep Media Player in its place and out of memory
entirely? I have no interest in sync'ing media files between the Treo and
the PC. Thanks.
