| | Vista - Vostro beeps from Mainboard |

| | Vostro beeps from Mainboard I have no speakers plugged into my dell vostro 200 (vista) desktop but the onboard speaker beeps as in when an email comes in or if I click somewhere on the desktop. I have muted the volume and the PC beep in the mixer panel and set the sounds to 'no sounds' yet the blooming speaker on the main board still beeps - what else can I do / try? Thanks, Andy. |

| | Re: Vostro beeps from Mainboard You have way too much patience. If you really JUST got this and having this much grief - do yourself a favor and return it. DO not wait. Do not pass GO . Do not collect $200. Just call them , get an RA number ( return authorization), box it up and send it back. With all of the problems you've reported, you're better to have them ship another ' brand spanking new one' , than trying to fix a lemon. If you wait too long that will not be an option. They will push back on you " You never reported a problem sir so we cannot replace it ....." I've known folks that have had that issue with Dell and stopped doing business with them for just that reason - they were too nice and Dell pushed back. Or was Ok for a while then went bad ? ( just checking quality of shipped pc as I will probably be called when/if it "doesn't work".) It beeps when you click somewhere on the desktop ? If you look at device manager - any problems ? I'm thinking if it beeps at ANY interaction probably notifying you of error situation. On your Control Panel - Sounds - speakers setting : set to ' no speaker ' ? |

It gives the beep the same kind of way that when you have your soundcard installed (or onboard sound there) but you have not put the drivers in for it you get them beeps off the mainboard buzzer/speaker that's the way it acts - plug the speakers in though and the beeps go away and the sound is ported to the plugged in speakers as normal if all that makes sense. | | Re: Vostro beeps from Mainboard A long time ago, when I was working, we had a batch of computers that insisted on making sounds. Our IT dept gave everyone a 'speaker' plug to insert in the 'speaker' socket. (Just a plug, no wire, speaker). Fooled the system into thinking the systems had a speaker so the sounds went 'there'. I do not think it will " autofind" speakers, so AFTER plugging in speakers go back to that screen and select speaker config from drop-down . Rather than No Speakers, usually you can choose Stereo, or Surround sound etc depending upon card/speaker config. |
