Hi, i've tried the solutions in the XP section to this error, but no
joy.
Anyone know what to do? Every time I click on 'check for updates' the
screen changes to 'checking for updates' then a moment later says
'windows could not search for new updates' and Error found 80070424.

if i put regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll into run, i get this error msg:
(in a RegSvr32 window) The module "wuaueng.dll" was loaded but the call
to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005.



any help much appreciated!

i've turned user account control off, and regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll has
'succeeded', but this has made no difference. i still have error
80070424 when trying to search for new updates, in windows update.

An update is available to fix a Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) crash on a Windows Vista-based computer

I just sat on the phone for over 2 hours with hp tech support while they tried to fix this through remote link. after 2 hours it still wasn't fixed but I decided to do a system wipe and start fresh after backing up any data i want to keep (itunes and photos mainly, only had the laptop a month). We did determine the cause for me at least. turns out i improperly uninstalled Norton while setting up the computer as it had a 30 day trial preloaded so rather than mess around with a trial of something i didn't want i went to the control panel to uninstall it when i should have gone to Norton's website to download their uninstaller tool..... i know this was an old thread but it was one of very few that actually turned up on google that dealt with this error on Vista almost every other post was to do with Win XP so i felt i'd add my experience to help any one else who might be going through this problem.

Help! I have this very error problem, but where I found this issue
comes from my automatic updates won't turn on. I tried the BITS link,
but received the message that it was not needed.

I really don't know what else to try!

Click Start, select run, type: regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
Use the Enter Key or Click OK and reboot after
