Vista - Windows Explorer Constantly Stops Responding

Vista Business. Thinpad T60p.
"Windows Explorer Constantly Stops Responding" error happens frequently.
Have to restart explorer. Any thoughts as to why?

Go to IBM and update all your Drivers, BIOS, and any utilities.

What are you doing when the happens? How often does it happen.
Might want to contact IBM too....

Thanks for the reply. Everything is up to date. Opening a file in explorer
will do it. Sometimes trying to open any program will do it. All was working
fine until an MS Update a few weeks ago. Maybe Vista simply isn't ready for
prime time yet.

Hey John, I've had a problem very simular to that and it might also be yours.
My problem was I would open up "Computer", open up C:\ then open a folder and
then Explorer would freeze and I get that message. Also Control Panel and all
the subsections of it didn't work at all. Well anyway, im not quite sure what
caused the problem I just reinstalled Windows and haven't had a problem
since...at least so far. It's just one of Vista's many annoying bugs.

Thanks for the reply, Philip. I agree with your assessment. I am afraid
it's a sign of Vista Beta software too. How sad to waste so much time. I
think I'm going back to XP for a year until Vista is more tried and true.

Going back to xp is the best thing you could ever do I highly suggest it. If
you want to make xp look like vista:

1. you could get WindowBlinds 5.5, Its $20.00 but is worth every penny.
Check out the trial at http://www.stardock.com/ and check out the products
section and you can get skins for it at http//www.wincustomize.com/

2. you could search Google for "how to make windows xp look like Windows
Vista" and look around for themes, sidebar, and stuff. Also you can get
Windows Media Player 11 for xp now and also alot of other vista apps so check
out the microsoft website for those.

Since it was working fine, seems a little drastic when you can uninstall or
roll back, but if XP was working the way you needed it to work, why did you
make the change to begin with. Usually best to wait until a hardware
upgrade makes a new system advisable.

New laptop with preinstalled Vista. I have had Vista check file integrity. I
have tried what I consider reasonable ways to determine the cause.
Unfortunately there are so many processes running in Vista it's hard to weed
through them all in any kind of intelligent way. I find Vista tries to do
too much without the ability for a user to pare some of its services. With
all the excellent 3rd party antivirus and spyware programs that can easily
be installed and uninstalled, I think MS made a mistake trying to do it all

Microsoft doesn't have any a/v software installed. That said, if you don't
like Vista, buy yourself a copy of XP and I hope you can find the necessary
drivers, especially for a laptop delivered with Vista.
