| Guest | Copy Timing Issue? I there am issue with the timing of file copying in Vista? I just copied the contents of 1 folder to another on the same drive. About 1 GB in size. Vista started ot by stating it would be aprox 4 minutes. Then about 6 minutes later is said 25 seconds remaining. Then about 3 minutes later is said 42 Minutes remaining, then 12 seconds, then 6 minutes, then 22 minutes, then 30 seconds, then, then , then. Is is a known issue? |

| Guest | Re: Copy Timing Issue? I'm also finding that timing is way off when installing programs. How can the timer site at 0 seconds remaining for 5 minutes or longer? <msnews.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:eGNVDQb9HHA.4712@xxxxxx Quote: >I there am issue with the timing of file copying in Vista? | Guest | Re: Copy Timing Issue? That's because the System Restore is taking a "snapshot" and creating a Restore Point for you. This is in case you wish to restore your pc to a state prior to installing the software. Search for System Restore on Google for more information. As for the original problem, it sounds like you're copying files on a USB drive, if so, that's normal behavior. It is, without doubt, the thing I dislike the most about Vista. I have heard that this is one of the things that SP1 addresses. Until we see SP1 in action, one can only hope SP1 will, in fact, fix this issue. Lang |

Is is a known issue? thing to say about an operating system, as dealing with files would seem to be one of the prime functions. Yesterday, I moved 4 pictures from one directory to another (well, cut & paste in any case). Took about 15 seconds after the paste commend for the files to show up. The "calculating time remaining" dialog did not go away for 10 seconds after that. I was able to move the files to a third directory before the dialog went away. |
