I've had the same problem for the past 2 days. Someone's reply mentioned
looking at the System Events viewer for details of system errors that have
occurred. When I did this, I found that a program that I installed (2 days
ago) was mentioned frequently in the error messages. The program is IE7Pro;
it's an IE7 add-in that provides crash recovery, much like Firefox (i.e.,
restoring previous sessions), and a host of other functions, including a neat
little add-in that provided a link on YouTube to download videos.
In any case, I uninstalled this program and the problem was instantly
corrected. Windows Explorer does not crash when I close it. I'll live
withouth the IE add-in.
If you have not installed IE7Pro, then do as the other person suggested and
look in the System Events viewer for other critical errors that have
coincided with the Explorer problem.
Hope this helped someone.
