Windows Explorer right-click menu

I have installed three different antivirus programs that changed the
right-click menu to enable me to scan a file by right-clicking on it.
Problem is, the changes seem to disappear after awhile and I no longer
have this option. Anyone else have this problem and does anyone know
how to fix it? The two programs I still have installed are Clamwin
and Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition. Maybe there is some other way to
scan single files or scan files that are downloading?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!

Hi Jst2swt4,

You may be having a conflict problem with your antivirus programs. You never want to have more than one antivirus program installed on your computer at one time. They will almost always have problems with each other.

My suggestion is to uninstall all of them and only reinstall one them to correct the problem.

If you have not tried the free Avast antivirus, it is a great one.

Hi Shawn

Thanks for your advice. I just happened to have the setup file for
avast so I installed it. I had read about it before and thought it
sounded good but it doesn't give me the option to right click a file
to scan for viruses.... any suggestions???

Jst2swt4,

Avast has a scan option for a individual file or folder in the right click (context) menu. Right click on the blue A ball in the bottom right corner and click "Program Settings", and make sure they are set like the screenshot below. When you right click a file or folder you will see "Scan" with a little blue ball with A in it to the left of it.

Well, i changed my settings and rebooted, but still no shell
extension. I think something is blocking the change of windows
explorer. Like i said earlier.... at one time clamwin showed in
windows explorer, then it disappeared!! I'm getting ready to give up :

You can use this program called "ShellExView" to look at all the "Context Menu" items for non-Microsoft programs to see if the antivirus program's item is listed. You might be able to see if some of those listed might be the problem. To test, just disable/enable it. This program is a stand-alone .exe program that does not install on your computer. Right click on the .exe and click "Run as administrator" to run ShellExView properly.

well, i installed that program. The list of files are too numerous to
list here but nowhere does it show an antivirus program. It shows
that none are disabled. In fact, when i tried to disable one just to
test it, it wouldn't disable. Frustrating, isn't it?? LOL

Sorry,

I forgot to mention that you need to right click on the program and click "Run as administrator". It will work properly then.
